Sean McDaniel
Sean’s work sits at the intersection of Comparative Political Economy (CPE) and party politics and examines how British and European models of economic growth and progressive politics are shaped by processes of post-crisis capitalist adjustment and the Net Zero transition. He is currently researching the political economy of the lithium-ion battery sector. Sean has published widely, including in journals such as Environmental Politics, New Political Economy, Journal of European Public Policy and Socio-Economic Review.
Within METHPOL, Sean is also a co-supervisor for the PhD students.

Clare Richardson-Barlow
Dr Clare Richardson-Barlow is a Lecturer in Global Politics of China at the University of Leeds, specialising in energy and climate governance, industrial decarbonisation, and the political economy of energy transitions, with particular expertise in China and Southeast Asia. Her research examines how policy, industrial strategy, and geopolitical dynamics shape national and international responses to climate change, including the governance of energy systems and emissions reduction. Prior to joining Leeds, she worked at leading policy research organisations in Washington, D.C., including the National Bureau of Asian Research and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and she continues to serve as a Non-Resident Fellow at NBR.
